The Ugoevo Scholarship Initiative: Twin Boys, One Future Worth Fighting For

Somewhere in Nkwogwu, in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, two brilliant twin brothers were quietly running out of time.

Not because they lacked ability. Not because they lacked the will to learn. But because their parents, through no fault of their own, could not find the money for school fees, and in a system with little mercy for the poor, that single shortfall was enough to end two promising educations before they had truly begun. We hold to a conviction that shapes this entire initiative: education is a right, not a privilege, and no child should lose the chance to learn simply because poverty reached them first. So we launched the Ugoevo Scholarship Initiative, an ongoing programme built to give brilliant but indigent children uninterrupted access to quality education and a safe place in which to learn. And when we found these twins, we did not hesitate.

Our work is careful, because dignity demands it. Before adopting the boys into the programme, we carried out a full home assessment and sat down with their family for honest interviews, confirming beyond doubt the financial vulnerability that threatened their future. Their school has now officially accepted to enrol them, and the Foundation has formally taken responsibility for their educational journey. These are no longer two boys hoping someone might notice. They are two boys with an institution standing behind them.

What that responsibility means, in practical terms, is total. The scholarship covers the full payment of their school fees, so that money is never again the reason a door closes. It provides their uniforms and the learning materials that let a child walk in with head held high rather than singled out for what they lack. It supplies the exercise books, textbooks, and writing tools that turn a seat in a classroom into real learning. But we go further than the transaction of fees and supplies, because a cheque alone does not raise a scholar. We provide continuous academic monitoring and mentorship, adults who watch their progress and believe in it, and welfare support that carries them steadily through the whole school year rather than abandoning them at the first term’s end.

Where do things stand today? For the twins, the groundwork is done. The needs assessment is complete. The interviews are held. School admission is secured. What remains is the final and most decisive step: the Foundation is now mobilising the resources to commence full scholarship sponsorship and turn a confirmed place into a funded, living reality.
